The Winds of Change Association Presents

The Mesa:
Its Creation, Care, Feeding, and Use

The mesa is the living embodiment of the shaman’s journey in Andean Mysticism and is comprised of his/her collection of power objects. As one receives the associated rites of passage (called Karpays), the mesa is built through a process of correspondence. The mesa is a direct reflection of the shaman´s own personal journey.

The mesa is treated as equivalent to the mountains and rivers that the stones came from, the rites of passage that the shaman passed through, and the cleansing and healing of the shaman that occurred during his/her passage through the rites of passage. The shaman considers the mesa to be a living being, which grows and changes, paralleling the shaman´s own growth and power.

When one works with the mesa, one is calling upon the mountains and nature so that the work is not personalized. The mesa, when used as a healing tool, operates through realigning energy. Using the mesa for healing is a means of accelerating one´s own development as a medicine person. It is a working tool to enhance one´s ability to work with the unseen world to effect change. The more you work with the mesa, the more it teaches you. The more in tune you are with your mesa, the clearer you become concerning your own power and knowledge.
